Salt & Light | Lindsey

Hello everyone, it’s Lindsey! Today I’m sharing a process video using the July 2017 Faith Art Box and a fun watercolor technique. You can find the process video over on the Creative Retreat YouTube Channel and the kit over in the Creative Retreat shop.
When I saw the stamp set for this month’s kit, I instantly knew where I wanted to journal in my Bible and was excited to try out a technique that I’ve been interested in.

It might be a long stretch to connect the salt technique with being the salt of the earth but it makes me remember this particular passage in the Bible and that’s the whole point of Bible Art Journaling for me. Be sure to check out the video to see how I used salt with watercolor to create this textured background.

13″ You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. 14 You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:13-14

This is a passage that I go back to again and again. It grounds me and reminds me of what my primary purpose is…especially with my ministry here on the internet. We’ve been called to bring balance to the world the same way we need salt to balance our bodies. We are also called to shine His light and bring hope to those who are hopeless.

People should be able to see that we are followers of Christ just by our actions and behavior. I’ve always held fast to the idea that I’m a Christian business owner and not a business owner who is Christian. The difference may seem subtle in the wording but in action there is a big difference.

We must shine His light in everything that we do on a daily basis. Are we shining when we are cut off by someone in traffic? Are we shining when the restaurant messes up your order? Are we teaching our children to shine when dealing with a bully?

I’m not perfect by any means and have to continually put myself in check with this passage but my hope is that on most days I get it right.

I hope that this post and the process video are inspirational for you and if you haven’t picked this kit up yet then be sure to head on over to the Creative Retreat shop to subscribe!

Until next time!
