I am Free |Bible Journaling with Julie

IMG_0499“For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.  Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him.”

(Romans 6:6-8, NIV)

You can see the entire process for this entry on the Creative Retreat YouTube Channel or at the bottom of this post.

I am a Southern gal.  Born and raised in Georgia.  Now I live in Florida.  It probably goes without saying that my blood is THIN!  I cannot handle the cold well.  However, when I was in graduate school and newly married I lived in Michigan.  The winters in Michigan are brutal, and it seems they last almost all year long!  I remember feeling as if I would almost die from the bitter cold during those long winter months.  I’ll admit, a fresh new snow is pretty; but the mountains of snow that fell in Michigan–along with that biting wind–it was just too unkind for me to think the prettiness was worth it.

I remember how I would don heavy layers and layers of clothes and outerwear in order to brave the bite of the outside wind and cold.  When I’d finally come inside, I would peal all those heavy layers off one by one (or sometimes all at once if I could manage).  Suddenly, I felt FREE of the weight of those heavy layers.  I could breathe, and feel my fingers and toes where they had felt numb before.

This reminds me of Romans 6:6-8, where it discusses how we are free from the power of sin, and now we are alive with Christ.  The devotional in the January Faith Art Box discusses this concept as well–we are free and renewed in Christ!  We are no longer encumbered by the weight of sin, condemned to die for our sins.  Christ nailed our sins–and our slavery to sin–on the Cross, and now we are free!

I used the snowflake stamp images from the kit, as well as many of the words stamps, on this page.   I then used the alpha letters, some stickers, and I cut out some block letters to spell “FREE” as the focal point.  I also curved the scallop stamp and used it as a border for the two corners of the page, and for the circle.  You can see the whole process in the video below.IMG_0502

There’s still time to pick up the January Faith Art Box in the shop; but don’t wait too long, because February is just around the corner (although the new Faith Art Box is “LOVE-ly”).  Make sure to share with all of us any projects you create using this kit by including #creativeretreatkits and @creativeretreat on Instagram, or on the Creative Retreat Kits Insiders Facebook group.

Until next time, blessings to you!
