37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”[d] 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” (Mark 4:35-40, NKJV)
“Peace, be still!” That’s what Jesus called out into the storm, as the panicking disciples watched to see what would happen. They were afraid they would drown, but within seconds, the winds and waves calmed, and so did the fear in the disciples hearts. Awe replaced the fear as they realized that Jesus had power over the dark storms around them.
I believe God included this story in the Bible just for me. I’ve been going through an interesting phase of uncertainty in my life for the last several years. And let me just be honest with you–I DON’T LIKE UNCERTAINTY! I like to know what is happening and when. But perhaps that is why God has kept me in a perpetual flux. I keep fearing and fretting and failing, feeling as if I’m drowning. All the while, Jesus waits for me to come to Him with my fears. He wants to say to my heart, “Peace! Be still!” He wants to pour His peace and love over me, and to wash away my fears.
Maybe this story is for you too. Maybe you fear or feel like you’re drowning. He will calm the storms in your life with His peace, and calm your heart with His love as you face those storms.
For this entry, I used the April Faith Art Box. The stamps and stickers are precious, and the colors are perfect! The devotional content focuses on this same topic–washing away fears. Check out the process video by using the links above or below. As you watch, notice how the process itself represents the message.
My favorite element of this kit, if you can’t tell, is the rain boots! What’s yours? I love how you can customize them with the pattern stamps in the kit. But those raindrops are just SOOO cute too!
