“I’m no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God. I am surrounded by the arms of the Father; I am surrounded by songs of deliverance. We’ve been liberated from our bondage; we’re the sons and the daughters, let us sing our freedom…”
As I herd the song “No longer a slave” by Jonathan David & Melissa Helser, over and over again I asked myself one question, “Why do you fear in the midst of your storm?” I thought about slavery and fear. I didn’t live in those times, but I have felt the bondage of slavery. Slaves used to lived in fear. They feared of their lives; their feared of their present or future, longing for their past. They feared wether they did something good or bad; they feared of the results their job. They feared during the day or night, during a sunny or a cloudy day. Sadly death was an escape for most of them.
But is that life? Is that the life that Jesus wants us to live? Apostle Paul said in Galatians 5:13:
For you were called to freedom.
You see, fear makes you live like a slave. It makes you doubt of your Creator. Fear can paralyze your faith making you believe that in your darkest hour Jesus will not save you. Fear makes you believe that the winds will hit so hard on your life that you won’t have a chance of a better future.
Have you ever thought about how easy it is for us to accept Jesus as our Savior, but not receive Him as our Deliverer? He not only wants to save us, but He also wants to free us from our bondage. He makes us a daily invitation to know Him.
How interesting is it that we can have Him in our boat, but forget His power? Fear starts building up in our hearts, and we tend to forget all that He has done for us. Just as the disciples feared that night of the storm, I’ve seen myself fearing and forgetting that He is GREATER than any storm, and that with Him in my boat there is no reason to FEAR!
So today, as you read the amazing story of Jesus calming the waters in Matthew 8, accept His invitation of knowing Him as your Deliverer. Immerse in His Word, and let his power free you from the bondage of fear. Let His love pour down on you, and wash your fears away because you are no longer a slave, you are a Child of God.
Until next time,
