“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians 6:9-10)
As I was reading my Bible I found many verses that spoke about good works. To be honest, it was a bit embarrassing to have read them. Why? Because while I was reading them I remembered many times I’ve tried to play God’s role by choosing to whom I do good. God doesn’t act that way with us, He is kind to everyone. The Bible says:
“But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back.” (Luke 6:35)
There was a time where we were enemies of God, and even when we turned our backs on Him, he showed his love to us by giving His one and only Son. God did not expect love from us, but He risked His love and showed his kindness to us.
His love and kindness is truly amazing. He rejoices doing us good.
“I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul.” (Jeremiah 32:41)
If we know the love and kindness of God, then why do we insist in choosing to do good to some people and not to others? We have allowed hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, self ambition, dissensions, envy, and past experiences govern our hearts. Without realizing it, they have manipulated and influenced us in our decisions; but if we want to bloom, we most go above our emotions. Our hearts should not follow our emotions; our hearts should follow God and his example. Blooming is the inevitable result of our good works, and God is pleased when we follow His ways.
“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16)
I know that maybe doing good to all may be a huge challenge for some of you, but I want to remind you 5 things. I pray that the during today the Holy Spirit reminds you them:
- Good Works is the evidence to the world that we are with God and we follow Him.
- When we do good works we make sacrifices that pleases Him.
- When we decide to do good no matter our past experiences, our heart starts a healing process.
- God is always thinking of doing good to us.
- Our good works can start today.
It may not be easy, but you’re not alone. I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you and give you the strength you need to make some good changes in your life. Remember, today is a good day to do good works.
