“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33
The definition of “overcome” according to Merriam-Webster is “to get the better of,” “to overwhelm” or “to gain superiority.” Therefore, this verse in John says that Jesus has gotten the better of, overwhelmed, and gained superiority over this world and all of its troubles! That’s good news, friends! No wonder this verse also says that we should be encouraged. If we know that Jesus has gotten the better of all of our problems, then we have every reason to be encouraged. Jesus has already conquered and overwhelmed every trial we face, every mountain we encounter, and every giant we come up against. Jesus is the Overcomer!
Because Jesus has overcome, we too can be overcomers. With the strength and peace that He gives us, we can handle what comes our way. We can overcome. We can have the peace that passes all understanding. And when others see us handling our stressful situations with grace and peace, others will want to know where that peace comes from, and they will be encouraged in their own struggles.
For this page, I used the June Faith Art Box. I created a variety of colorful circles with a blending tool and inks. I used the texture stamps to add some visual interest, and then placed the cardstock stickers in an arrangement to spell out the verse. I also made a shaker pocket with the devotional backing and a cellophane bag, and then added buttons, glitter and confetti. I finished the page off with a bow and washi tape.
How has God encouraged you lately? What has He overcome in your life? How can you encourage others with His power to overcome? Take heart, friends! He has already overcome for AND through you!
