“Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain,
and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language,
and people and nation.” Revelation 5:9
As we approach the end of June, I want to say thank you to all of you who have done this journey with me! This has been a bittersweet couple of months, full of ups, downs and everywhere in between! God be praised for the community of believing sisters He’s given us!
A couple weeks back, I posted something on John 16. Jesus says to His disciples what we hear preached often; something that we come to when in need of a good dose of “keep on” and a hearty “hang in there!”
In John, Jesus speaks reassuringly about overcoming the world; this was to give His disciples hope and courage after He leaves (is crucified) and until the Holy Spirit comes.
As we said before, it must have been hard and confusing to hear Jesus say, “I’m leaving but don’t worry,” especially since they were to honor Him as Messiah, the Anointed One.
By dying on the cross and rising from the grave, Jesus accomplished for the first time what no other was able to do: overcome. Overcome death. Overcome sin. Overcome the barrier between God and man. Overcome Satan and demons. Overcome eternal destruction.
Then it gets even more interesting…
In this life, He’s overcome all of this now. But we’re in the spans of time between what He’s done and what He has yet to do. We’re in the middle of all Jesus has conquered today, and what He has yet to conquer forever. We’re caught in something called the “Already, but not yet,” time frame that shows us victory today, and a victory yet to come!
John the “Beloved disciple” writes his gospel in the mindset of understanding what Jesus has done for us that we may have life – salvation and sanctification – in Him while we live on Earth. Then in Revelation, said disciple writes from a vision given to Him by God; a vision that vividly details the finale – the time when Jesus comes and defeats all evil, all demonic activity, all war, all pain, all discomfort, all disease, and the Devil himself! This ultimate and climactic time is where the Lamb will shine as the Overcomer. He will be heralded again, this time as the King, the One worthy to open the scrolls and cast the Devil into the abyss! Oh, what a glorious ending to a perfect beginning!
What? Yes, the end will usher in a new beginning! A new Heaven. A new Earth. A new life. A forever that will contain no more tears; pain; death. No more hurt, no more war. No famine. No poverty. AND NO MORE SIN! We are FREE! 😀
What a time this will be! One day it will ALL make sense because the One who overcomes now, will overcome again and more so! It’s something difficult for us to understand as we entertain the battle that goes on day to day between Spirit and flesh. But be encouraged brothers and sisters, for our Lamb has won the battle for you today and for forever!
