“He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
This passage has to be one of my favorite scriptures in the whole Bible. In fact, it’s one of the first passages that I creatively journaled in my very first journaling Bible (six Bibles ago!). I know I’m not the only one that feels like it was written specifically for me. The following words in this passage describe me perfectly: weak, those who have no might, faint, weary, utterly fall. And then the next set of words describe what I desire, what I need: power, increased strength, renewed, mount up like eagles, run, walk.
In our busy, frantic, chaotic lives, we grow tired and weary. Too tired to focus on God and His purpose for our lives. Too weary to spend quality time with Him in devotion and prayer. That’s what Satan wants–to keep us so busy that we neglect the Source of strength. However, it is in that weakness and weariness that God can truly work within us. Only when we recognize our utter weakness and need for Him can God fill us with His power and strength. Only in our perfect weakness can we experience His perfect strength.
For this page, I’m using the September Faith Art Box. I began by taking some string and using Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink to add color to it. You could also do this with acrylic paint or other media. I’ve even done it with watercolor paint before. I added some background to the page with that same pink ink, and then stamped some hearts using a couple of Creative Retreat stamp sets (So Loved and Forever His) and Quiet Yellow chalk ink. The hearts floating up represent the soaring on wings of eagles with God’s power. I cut out the title element from the devotional card and placed that over the pink area, with the string behind it for texture. I thing added some word and alpha stickers to complete my title, which read, “In my weakness is your perfect strength.” I added some texture stamping with the two texture stamps from the June Faith Art Box, and finished it off with some washi tape, heart stickers, and a few more word stickers at the top and bottom, and of course, my journaling.
I know I need God’s perfect strength in my weary life today! Without it, I’m lost. I utterly fall–and utterly fail! But with it, I can mount up with wings like eagles. I can run and not grow weary. I can walk and not faint. I pray that you and I both, in our weakness, can wait on and hope in the Lord’s His perfect strength.
