Bible Journaling with Lindsey | Gather

 

Hello everyone, it’s Lindsey! I have to admit that I really struggled with journaling this entry in Matthew 18:15-20. I’m obsessed with all of the fun Fall colors and the title words in this kit but had a hard time using them while journaling this passage since it has such a hurt attached to it. 15 “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. 18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be looseda]”>[a] in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

Have you ever had a fellow Christian sin against you? Have you wondered what the appropriate way to restore that relationship was? Did you know that Jesus gave us a step by step guide for handling this situation?

I didn’t know this until I had to become intimately familiar with this set of verses a little over a year ago. Your church family can be amazing, loving, and grace filled but when…(not if, because it’s inevitable that someone will eventually sin against you since a church is a building full of sinners who need Jesus)…a fellow Christian sins against you it can be hard to know how to handle that in a Christ like way.

I’m so glad that Erin shares this devotional with us and walks us through the importance of this series of verses. Life can be hard but thankfully God has given us a manual, the Bible, that gives us the directions on how to live our lives out as Christians.

  1. I’ve been in the same type of situation years ago and since I never moved away every so often people want to discuss those people with me. I feel like I tried and it didn’t end well. Anyway, the book Hurt by God’s People by Anne Graham Lotz helped me. Check it out. I went through the book with a group of Christian ladies. You’d make a great leader for that type of study.
    Also, I love the page and the video and can’t wait for mine to arrive! It worries me that all of the process videos will be in the Illustrated Faith Bible which I don’t have. I hope that other Bibles will be included. I hope that the size of the stamps and stickers will not change.
    Thank you for all that I do! You all have added so much to my life and my study of the Bible. I suffer from depression from time to time and it really helps!!!

    1. I’ll have to check out that book! And don’t worry, I don’t think all of the team members are working in the Illustrating Bible….it’s just the one that I’m currently loving and working in.
