“Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalms 16:9-11 NKJV
This August marks nine years in China. I remember in 2010, I applied for work abroad out of an emotional state — “just to get away” because I was going through something like a heartbreak. But really, deep inside, I didn’t want to go. But I also believed that God was already working, even in my emotional state.
Then one day, I got an email back about a job opportunity to teach and even though I seemed excited on the outside, I was dying on the inside. Also, I had lost about 15 pounds from all my worrying that no one, except for God, knew about.
Even if I didn’t have great opportunities back home, I didn’t care. I was an emotional and sentimental girl a— happy to just be around family and friends and living life. But God, who is loving and all knowing, had other plans for me. He stripped me of everything I loved and depended on until all I had was Him.
Nine years later, I am a much stronger person— both emotionally and spiritually. I don’t fear the unknown anymore as much as I used to. I have learned and experienced first hand how much God loves me and I can trust Him with my life because He’s proven Himself time and again. He’s led me through mountains and valleys and though there were a lot of tears, I don’t think I’d have it any other way if it will lead me to where I am today.
Today, I am dealing with a different kind of adventure and that is the “adventure” of taking care of my aging parents— physically and financially. It can be quite draining even emotionally and mentally, but it is a path He’s got me on, and as long as I’m on God’s path, I know I will be okay.
This kit is so special to me not only for the amazing adventure that God has put me on when He brought me here to China but also because I was given the wonderful opportunity to help design it.
