You know when you say something, it comes out all wrong, totally not like you thought it would come out? It comes out meaner, or more direct, or your words tumble – not how you wanted them to come out.
That happens to me quite often. I am a huge introvert, and I consider myself as socially awkward sometimes! I catch myself saying things all wrong, or saying things I didn’t mean to say, regularly. Oftentimes, I forget that the words I say have so much power.
I don’t know about you, but I usually remember hurtful words people say to me way more than encouraging, sweet words. I am in school for piano, and I remember the hurtful words my teacher tells me a lot more than the encouraging ones, even though when he is encouraging, it makes me so happy and motivated.
Let’s try to change that around. What if we would make efforts to say sweet, gracious words more? What if we would try to block those hurtful words and say envouragement or gracious words to people, even if they might make us frustrated?
Proverbs 16:24 says : “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.”
I encourage us all to try hard to fight mean and hurtful words with encouraging and gracious ones. Let’s honor God with the words we say.
