Have you read through the book of Numbers? I’ll admit I only read through it one time, last year, when I was reading through the bible chronologically. It is basically a census of all the tribes and people with Moses in the wilderness. Literally a bunch of numbers.
Not the most interesting read. However, it was important for the Israelites to record which tribe they belonged to so they knew where to live, what role they had when building the tabernacle, and what they were to sacrifice to God. It even specifies how the Levites were to redeem themselves.
Luckily we don’t need to sacrifice livestock or pay money for our redemption. As this month’s devotional put it: I don’t need a tribe, I need a savior.
How amazing is it that we have Jesus as our savior. He made the sacrifice. He has payed for our redemption. He is the ultimate Best Friend.
