Bible Journaling with Heidi: God’s Word is our mirror

Hi everybody, I am excited to be back today to share how I used this month’s faithfilled digitals! I absolutely love the subject of this month’s kit and I am sure you will too (especially for those of you who are Disney fans)!

God’s Word is like a mirror. We read it, meditate on it, pray it, and that reveals the state of our hearts. And I don’t know about you, but sometimes the things that come up in your heart are quite scary. Sometimes you don’t want to deal with them and choose to go on with your life without taking care of those things.

I would like to share in example of this that has happened to me recently. As I mentioned in my last post, I’m supposed to be in Europe right now, for 24 days. But obviously, due to the pandemic, that isn’t happening. One of my flights was cancelled on March 23rd, and for almost nine weeks, I was living in constant anger and disappointment. My childhood dream was finally going to come true… Only it didn’t.

I read my Bible and tried to understand why God was allowing this. But I was still angry. During those weeks, God revealed some pretty nasty things in my heart. But I didn’t want to see them. I kept on living my quarantine life in anger and disappointment and bitterness. Wallowing in all that made me doubt God. Doubt His goodness.

This is why James tells us to be doers of the Word and not hearers only! When we don’t apply the Word, it doesn’t help us. Friends, look in the mirror of the Word and take action! Just a few days before I was supposed to leave for Europe, I decided that I had had enough of refusing to apply God’s Word and of wallowing in negativity. I started writing things I was thankful for each day. I started praying through Philippians – the book of joy. And what a difference it has made! I still struggle, because I am a human, just like everyone else. But trying to combat that negativity I had inside and apply God’s Word has been a game changer!

I encourage you to examine your heart this week. Are you a hearer only? Are you applying God’s Word? What do you notice in your heart when you read His Word? Do you take action on it or let it be?

Thank you for reading this post, I hope it was an encouragement to you that we can change and work on our heart, with God’s help. You can find this kit and digitals here ( and you can find me on Instagram @creative4hisglory for more journaling projects!
