I love rereading parts of scripture and putting together pieces that I had missed before. When reading through the suggested verse for this month’s devotional, Isaiah 43: 14-21, something finally clicked.
In the devotional Jessica refers to the paradox in verse 19- a river in the middle of the desert. Flowing, life sustaining water in the middle of dry arid land. They just don’t go together. But God says he will provide this river. God will make a way in the wilderness. God will give a drink to his chosen people.
That’s what clicked. A drink of water. Jesus is the living water. Whoever drinks from his water will never thirst again.
God is doing something new- He has already started. He provided His son, the living water, as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Because of Jesus’ death, we are awarded with new life.
Jesus is the living water, provided by God in the middle of the wilderness.
Whatever hardships we are facing now, wherever we are lost in the wilderness, we can take a drink of the living water and be cleansed and refreshed.
