“Some people could be given an entire field of roses and only see the thorns in it. Others could be given a single weed and only see the wildflower in it. Perception is a key component to gratitude. And gratitude is a key component to joy”Amy Weatherly
I saw this quote from Amy Weatherly a few weeks ago and it made me think so much about this month’s Gracious Gratitude kit. How many times have you heard (or said/thought) “the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.” We are all so guilty of comparing what others have or what others do to what we may or may not have/do ourselves. Comparison is such a thief of joy. But thankfulness, and even more so, contentment, is what brings joy.
1 Timothy 6:6-8 reminds us that “But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content” The passage goes on to say that those who pursue worldly desires risk falling away from the faith because they crave what they don’t have and find those things more desirable than the things of God.
As Christians, our first pursuit should be godliness – to become more like Christ each and every day. And the more that we strive to become like Him the more we will find ourselves satisfied with Him. The grass isn’t going be greener on the other side of the fence. It’s going to be greener wherever you water it. Water your grass with thankfulness and watch contentment grow ❤
I created this simple page using various elements from the Gracious Gratitude kit. If you haven’t grabbed yours yet, you can find it in the Creative Retreat shop.
