Bible Journaling with Diana | Genuine Thanks

This post is all about giving thanks, genuine thanks, in all circumstances. With a combination of mental exhaustion and lack of focus, I struggled to get this entry together. But in the end, it worked out all for His glory. Because that’s what this post is for, right? Not to just share pretty pages, but to share His goodness and truth.

I started this entry wanting to make a colorful background for a simple stamped title to compliment Psalm 100.

I blended some Creative Retreat inkpads with a baby wipe over the page and stamped a little border around the verse. Then when stamping my title, I dropped the block and smeared some black ink right over it. My first fix was to outline the title with a white gel pen. Well that covered up some of the stamping and then when I re-stamped over it again… It just ended up looking sloppy to me.

So I let the page sit like that for a few days. I re-read the devotional, I looked through the Psalms for a different verse that I could journal, but nothing seemed right. Last night I just asked God to show me which verse to work with, which one should I journal about to share His goodness and my thankfulness with the internet. And I woke up set on fixing this page.

I re-stamped the title onto white paper, glued it down to some leftover patterned paper, and covered up the original mess.

Part of why I wanted to ‘save’ this entry was because I had already written out a little portion of the devotional. I love what Hayley said:

“Trying to muster up a spirit of gratitude by our own strength misses the whole point of the gospel… Jesus Christ came to do what we couldn’t… That includes being continually grateful.”

I alone am not enough to have a grateful attitude toward all of my circumstances. It is so much easier for me to get mad and upset when things don’t go my way. This is why leaning on Jesus is so important. He gives us the strength to accomplish difficult tasks, including being grateful in the midst of difficult circumstances.

I used the kit stickers to make a little shaker pocket to store up this reminder- to have genuine thanks because of Christ Jesus. I wrote our a prayer on the back and added it in to the coil of my Illustrating Bible.

In the end, I am thankful that I did not give up on this page, that I could take time to really figure out what God wanted me to share with the readers of this post, and ultimately thankful for the grace, continual faithfulness, and strength of God that I am given through His Son, Jesus.

I hope this little fix-it page encourages you somehow. To either keep working through the hard times (whether it be journaling related or just life in general) or to just sit back and take a moment to be thankful.

Psalm 100, NIV
A psalm. For giving grateful praise.
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
    Worship the Lord with gladness;
    come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
    It is he who made us, and we are his;
    we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
    his faithfulness continues through all generations.
