Trust. My one little word for 2017. It keeps circling around and coming back as a focus I need to revisit again and again.
And here we are at the end of 2020. A year that really threw us a curve ball. All our plans. The special events, birthdays, holidays… all changed. Our ‘new normal’ that has pushed us to see that whatever we plan for ourselves, God has better plans. They may not look like what we expect. We might not even be able to understand them. But God’s ways are higher. His timing is perfect. All we need to do is trust.
Trust his plans.
Trust his timing.
Proverbs 16 is full of little bits of truth that remind us to not lean into our own plans, desires, and wants. I will always remember a former pastor telling us to NOT follow our hearts. Our hearts are full of our own selfish desires that pull us away from relying on God. Instead of following our hearts, follow God’s plan. Instead of my will and my goals, follow God’s plan. Instead of my timeline, trust God’s timing.
As we look ahead into 2021, we can fill up our planners with school events, birthdays, and holidays. But ultimately we need to remember that the future is uncertain, plans change, and when things go awry to trust in God’s will and timing.
I started this page by blending some of the coordinating Creative Retreat inks through the wonky diamond stencil. I used the kit stickers for my title, and finished it off with a prayer to remember to trust in God’s timing.
