“Peace! Be still!” Bible Journaling with Ashley

Mark 4:35-41 – “On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

What stood out to me most in this passage were Jesus’ words, “Peace! Be still!”. I can’t tell you how often I let fear creep in even when I know that God is right here with me in every moment. Anxiety will do that to you! It’s too easy to get tricked into Satan’s lies and believe the worse when we should be trusting that Jesus is working all things together for good behind the scenes. I knew I wanted to document how I was feeling after reading this passage by utilizing many of the stickers from the kit. I think they perfectly highlighted what I wanted to remember when I turn to this passage in the future. I want the Lord to remind me that His love pours down in all seasons and situations; sometimes we just have to look a little harder to find His goodness when we’re in the thick of a valley low. I also wanted to be reminded of Jesus’ command to have peace and be still because He has got everything under control. To illustrate God’s love pouring down I used the heart stickers to mimic rain falling from the sky. His love truly does pour over us and wash us free of fear when we seek Him! What a beautiful picture that is. Is you’re needing a little encouragement in this area today, I encourage you to listen to “Fear is a Liar” by Zach Williams. It has been getting me through when fears creep into my life recently and I pray it can be helpful to you as well!
